Environmental stewardship refers to responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices. Aldo Leopold championed environmental stewardship based on a land ethic "dealing with man's relation to land and to the animals and plants which grow upon it."

What are environmental stewardship? What do they do? “The term environmental stewardship has been used to refer to such diverse actions as creating protected areas, replanting trees, limiting harvests, reducing harmful activities or pollution, creating community gardens, restoring degraded areas, or purchasing more sustainable products" (Bennett & Whitty 597-614). Their responsibility of an environmental stewardship is to keep order and maintain the natural environment. Some practices involved to protecting the environment are, restoration, recycling, regeneration, conservation, and amongst other things (shandas & Messer 2008).
